1. Choose compact, versatile training equipment

You don't need the massive machines found in most commercial gyms to stay in great shape! With just a few small items, you can effectively train your entire body and save a commute to the gym. Some of the best choices for home gym equipment are:

  • Adjustable dumbbells
  • Exercise bands
  • Mobile ballet barre
  • Parallettes
  • Ab wheel
  • Adjustable incline bench

If you have the space and don't mind a more permanent installation, mounting a set of stall bars (ladder-type wooden bars, typically found in gymnastics gyms) on the wall will tons of additional exercise variations.

2. Use storage solutions that can double as training equipment

Keeping your training equipment hidden from site when not in use will keep your space organized and will allow the room to serve multiple purposes. When not in use, a home gym can turn into an office, art studio, or even a coffee nook.

3. Get in the workout mindset with inspirational wall art and photography

Visual cues are a great way to keep fitness top-of-mind. Keep yourself from slacking off with inspirational photography, vibrant wall art, or bold colors that will keep your energy high.

4. Add a whiteboard to plan your workout ahead of time

Writing down your workouts ahead of time is a proven way to increase your commitment. A whiteboard is the perfect tool to keep you on track! If your fitness room doubles as work space, you can also use it for brainstorming or jotting down reminders.

5. Include bolsters and stretching straps to aid your mobility training

Maintain lifelong mobility and strength in your home with a few simple tools! Bolsters, stretching straps, and mats can assist in a countless number of mobility exercises, and can be easily stored away when not in use.

Bonus Tip: Selling your home? Stage a room as a home gym

If you have an empty room you need to stage, why not create a home gym? Many homebuyers today want the convenience and cost-savings of having a home gym instead of having to commute to a gym and pay a membership fee. Featuring an attractive home gym can be a great selling point!
